I feel this theme couldn't describe better how this beautiful program works. For me, growing up in a family affected by the disease and later voluntarily moving here to live in active alcoholism with all the chaos that entails, I always felt so isolated as it was hard to think anybody would understand what I was going through, my feelings and thinking. Today, I'm very grateful I found my people through the Al-Anon program and it brought me back to life.
It has been an honor for me to be part of this amazing convention since my first months in recovery 6 years ago. It plugged me in to a massive community that has been pushing me and saving my life every year by keeping me busy in the right things: giving back to others what was given to me since day 1 in this program. Especially this year, working together and receiving all the support from our AA Chairman Manny and Co-Chairman Crystal. You did an amazing job organizing to make all of this happen and allowing me to learn so much. I just love to be part of it.
This is a We program and with all the hard work, time and love of everybody involved in both committees, AA and Al-Anon working together towards a common purpose, has resulted in an amazing weekend filled with recovery and joy. I hope you enjoy and let yourself get fully immersed in all the activities we have prepared for you. Of course we have amazing Al-Anon speakers including the return of a Spanish Speaker Meeting for the second year in a row and multiple Marathon meetings in English and Spanish, everybody with a great message. This is a safe space that was created for you.
I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all the committee members and volunteers who have made this weekend possible. Your dedication, love, and service are deeply appreciated. Without you, this event wouldn't be the incredible experience it is.
Let's celebrate recovery together!
Love in service,
Xochitl E.
40th OCAAC Al-Anon Chairman
